A Copper Nickel Welding Neck Collar is a precision-forged and machined fitting welded directly to the end of a CuNi pipe, providing the wetted, corrosion-resistant contact face that mates with a low-cost carbon steel or stainless steel loose/backing flange — commonly known as a Van Stone or composite flange assembly. This design is the industry-standard, cost-effective way to specify Copper-Nickel piping systems: only the collar (the part in contact with seawater) is manufactured in expensive CuNi 90/10 or CuNi 70/30 alloy, while the structural backing flange can be a lower-cost material, delivering significant material cost savings without compromising corrosion performance.
